Concrete Washout FAQs

What is the Concrete Washout System, and how does it work?

The Concrete Washout System is a complete solution for capturing, filtering, treating and reusing concrete wastewater (from concrete skips, pumps or trucks) for further washout or wet curing. Treated water can also be safely stored on-site in the water storage tank for other applications.

What sizes of skip and platforms work with the Concrete Washout System?

The system supports a variety of skip sizes from 500 litres up to 3,000 litres and is compatible with our different sizes of Skip Washing Platforms (small or large). You can use 4,000-litre concreye skips with a made-to-order XXL washing platform.

How often does the Concrete Washout System need emptying or maintaining?

The tank has a capacity of 2,000 litres. You can store treated, pH-neutralised water on site indefinitely. Only empty the tank once testing confirms the water meets the required pH level for safe disposal in line with local environmental guidelines. The system actively prevents environmental contamination, and we supply a 25 kg pH neutraliser additive to treat contaminated wastewater.

What is the Compact Concrete Washout Unit?

The Compact Concrete Washout Unit is a closed-loop system that captures, treats and recycles concrete washout water, especially suited for cleaning truck chutes and smaller equipment like our Excavator Pouring Bucket. It uses a filtration bag to catch large aggregate, and pumps the remaining water into the storage tank, where operatives can treat it with a pH neutraliser. Once sufficiently treated, the water can either be re-used or safely disposed of in line with local environmental guidelines.

What is the difference between the Concrete Washout System and the Compact Concrete Washout Unit?

The Concrete Washout System is ideal for larger sites that require use of a crane and are using concrete skips to pour concrete. Workers predominantly use the Concrete Washout System to wash out concrete skips, but they can also use it to clean concrete pumps and truck chutes. The Compact Concrete Washout Unit is perfect for sites that don’t have cranes and aren’t using concrete skips to pour concrete. Operatives predominantly use the Compact Concrete Washout Unit for concrete truck chutes, plus smaller equipment and attachments, like our Excavator Pouring Bucket. It’s also great for sites that have less footprint available.

What’s the best way to handle concrete washout on tight urban sites where discharging to ground is not allowed?

A closed-loop washout system would be the recommended method to handle wastewater in this situation. Our Compact Concrete Washout Unit would capture and treat the water with a pH-neutralising method, so the concrete wastewater can be reused for further washout or other activities on-site.

Which concrete washout systems are designed to separate solids effectively and simplify disposal?

All of our Concrete Washout range is capable of separating the heavy aggregate from the wastewater, reducing the environmental risk and complying with local regulations. This is how their methods differ:

  • Concrete Washout System: A system made up of three components including a filtration tray, a skip washing platform and a water storage tank. The skip and equipment get washed in the filtration tray where the filtration bag(s) capture heavy aggregate; the water then gets filtered further through the sump and eventually gets pumped to the storage tank to be treated with pH neutraliser for safe disposal (in line with environmental guidelines or reused for more cleaning.
  • Compact Concrete Washout Unit: A single unit that collects heavy aggregate in the filtration bag. The wastewater is then filtered into a sump before being pumped into the integrated storage tank where it can be treated with pH neutraliser and reused for more cleaning or stored for future use.
  • Concrete Washout Frame: A single unit that collects heavy aggregate in the filtration bag. It is predominantly used for washing truck chutes and smaller equipment/accessories. The water is treated in the sump below the filtration bag. This system is just for containing and collecting the concrete wastewater so it can be pH neutralised and disposed of in line with your site’s environmental guidance.

Do you provide reusable concrete washout units that can be moved around site as needed?

We offer three reusable concrete washout solutions that can be easily moved around site.

The Concrete Washout Frame is the smallest of our washout systems and features both fork pockets and crane lifting points for easy relocation. However, if it has been used, any wastewater in the sump must be pH neutralised and disposed of in line with local environmental regulations before it is moved around site.

The Compact Concrete Washout Unit features a closed-loop system that allows wastewater to be reused after it has been pH neutralised. Ideal for cleaning smaller concrete tools and truck chutes, it helps to reduce water consumption and wastewater disposal. However, it must be emptied before relocation in accordance with the user guide and relevant environmental regulations to ensure compliance.

The Concrete Washout System is the best-practice solution for concrete washout; it is a closed-loop system that allows for the safe capture, pH neutralising treatment and reuse of wastewater from washing concrete skips, trucks, and pumps. It has lifting points and fork pockets that allow each element of the system to be moved where necessary around the site. However, this system will take the longest time to move, so relocation is not advised unless imperative to avoid unnecessary downtime.
