01/ Concrete Pouring

Concrete pouring is the process of placing freshly mixed concrete into formwork, prefabricated moulds, or prepared ground, so it hardens into the required structure.

Pouring methods can vary depending on the site requirements, including, direct from the concrete truck chute or using a mechanical pump, skips or plant attachments.

02/ Concrete Blowout

Concrete blowout is the process of using compressed water or air to drive a sponge ball, commonly referred to as a ‘pig’, through a mechanical pump line or a skip delivery hose to clear the build-up of concrete after a pour is complete.

When it comes to the end of pours with pumps, preventing both the build-up of dried concrete and the wastage of excess concrete are essential for continued operational reliability and project cost-saving.

Concrete washout is the process of cleaning truck chutes, pumps, attachments and tools, used for concrete pouring and blowout, while containing the high-alkaline (over pH 12) wastewater for treatment and safe disposal or reuse, compliant to UK RPS 287.

04/ Usage & Maintenance

Due to the quick hardening of concrete and the toxicity of concrete wastewater, vigilant equipment maintenance at regular intervals is key for achieving optimum performance from equipment used for pouring, blowout and washout on-site.

Whenever concrete has been used, it is imperative that all equipment, tools and accessories are cleaned and regular maintained is carried out to ensure it remains fully operational and safe to use.

Understand Dangers of Concrete Waste
The high-alkaline content of concrete wastewater makes it harmful to the environment and hazardous to skin. To comply with government legislation, including RPS 287, contractors must ensure proper concrete washout procedures are in place and no untreated wastewater is stored or disposed of on-site.

Specify Your Washout Area
Any equipment used for concrete pouring must be cleaned in a designated area on-site which is not nearby natural water resources or drainage to help prevent accidental contamination.

Provide Clear, Visible Signage
The concrete washout area should be clearly signed to ensure all operatives can easily identify it over other waste disposal or storage areas.
