Peterborough Road: Temporary works help new urban commercial development to progress in London

ContractorLegendre UK Ltd

About the project

In the centre of Parsons Green in South West London, a Legendre UK project team is carrying out excavation works to create a four-storey office building and a one level basement. The scheme is being delivered by Legendre UK on behalf of W.RE.

This development requires significant temporary works during the excavation phase. Conquip was brought in to supply and support the propping solution for the basement structure – integrating inherited designs on a constrained site right up against services and other infrastructure.

Scope of works

The propping works were delivered in two main stages, each aligned with the basement construction sequence, and with our engineers on-site to offer guidance.

The project involved the installation of a walling beam to support the elevations retained by steel sheet piles, with connections made into sections of the capping beam. Once the walling beam was secured, primary props were installed to provide lateral support to the basement excavation, ensuring overall stability. This allowed excavation to continue safely down to formation level, enabling subsequent structural works to progress.

“The propping works formed a critical part of enabling the one-level basement structure and ground floor slab. Through a collaborative, solutions-focused approach, Conquip ensured safe, on-time execution despite constraints and interface complexity”
Jeremie Schiano | Site Manager, Legendre UK Ltd

Technical complexity

The project required engineered solutions to address specific logistical and spatial challenges:

  • UKPN utility interface: We developed, in collaboration with the site team, a temporary support for the temporary UKPN platform to work around the local services.
  • Saddle shear system: The temporary works team designed a saddle shear assembly to interface precisely with the sheet piles, ensuring stability during excavation.
  • Multi-system integration: The propping scheme was designed to work in tandem with façade retention, sheet piling and concrete pile construction — demanding continual coordination and clash detection.

“This project highlights Conquip’s ability to deliver bespoke, engineered temporary works in constrained urban sites — combining pre-engineered solutions with adaptive onsite expertise”
