Weybridge Innovation Facility: Case Study Transcript

Hi, I’m Magda Miazga Banham. I’m a senior site manager at Kier.

Here in Weybridge, we are building a four storey main building on the west side of the site with a mixed use office and lab space and a three-storey car park.

Mitchellson have been appointed for groundworks and super structure on our project including the back propping that was delivered by Conquip.

Hello, my name is Eddie Mayer. I’m a project manager for Mitchellson responsible for delivering the Weybridge Innovation Facility.

We work in collaboration with Kier to deliver the full package for the project. The full package includes all the drainage, a substantial attenuation tank, sheet piling and a concrete frame.

My name is Osman. I work for Mitchellson. I’m one of the project managers on this job. We have our own in-house temporary works team, so Mitchellson and Conquip liaised and came up with the design.

Eddie: Part of our package was to provide a sheet piling system to allow the car park to be excavated because it was on a substantial slope. We chose to go to a proprietary propping system of which Conquip designed and is supplied.

Osman: Once worked out, we collaborate again to make sure all the materials and the equipment get delivered to site. Then Conquip engineers came for the installation process.

I’m Paul. I am the on-site supervisor for Conquip. Conquip’s in-house temporary work design team design a package based off the loadings from the pile design and the customer’s requirements. Once this is all done and we’re ready to go as part of the installation package, we will then come in and do the full install in accordance with our temporary works design.

Magda: On this job, we’ve got quite a few challenges including differences in levels. Hence why there is quite a lot of propping.

Eddie: It had to be phased in as we excavated, lowered it, introduced the next level of props rather than just one continual process.

Paul: This installation job was slightly different because we’re installing the props above ground. The sheep pile wall here is retaining a sloped bank.

Magda: Mitchelson have been really good in managing the site, making sure that we can progress quickly with groundworks and also appointing Conquip to install the propping.

Eddie: I would recommend working with Conquip Temporary Works engineers and on-site team.

Osman: We would love to work with Conquip again if similar scheme came up.
