The Forum: Case Study Transcript

My name is Chris Jones. I’m the operations manager for Shaw Group Logistics. We’re in the heart of Gloucester on this prestigious project which is The Forum. It’s a very unique project. It’s in the centre of Gloucester. So it’s very tight logistically.

We’ve got various storage yards where we store materials. We bring them to the site and this is where the CantiDecks become available. We transfer there, lift them into site. Efficiency for me using CantiDecks is we’re using the tower cranes to load out each floor on each plot.

My name is Richard Hawkwell. I’m working for Kier Construction. We’re using CantiDecks super rollers on this project. They’re easier to push out, push in, rather than having the fixed CantiDecks. It opens up the road so you can still do lifts through the road and it’s not creating any obstruction.

Scaffolding loading bays, you’ve got all the tubes which are sticking up. With the CantiDecks super rollers, you’ve got no obstructions. So, it’s a lot easier to land any materials on them. The stack configuration, because you’ve got it just in a straight line, you can keep on working all the way around the build, and then you’ve only got one section just to finish off the outside cladding.

And I would really highly recommend using the stack system of the super rollers. Having them stacked in a straight line means that you can just push one out, load on, pull it back in, and then you can drop down to another level and do exactly the same again.

Once the delivery has arrived, it’s lifted onto the CantiDecks at each different level. Each floor plate has their own storage area for each subcontractor.

One of the benefits of the Conquip CantiDecks and push-in push-out is they’re flush as it’s coming back in to take the items off of the CantiDecks. There’s a nice slope there. The transition is very minimal.

The CantiDecks are being utilised for getting waste material out of the building to ensure that the working space is always kept clean and clear at all times.

You’ve got the electricians using them to land coils of wire on. Then you’ve got the air conditioning units, which are getting landed on and then eventually we’ll be having the bricklayers coming in and laying the bricks. A variety of things are getting landed on. It allows the multitude of deliveries to be put into the building once, and once only.

Installing a CantiDecks is very simple. It’s a day of training by the Conquip engineer. The guys will then look to install. Very simplistic. If you think about scaffolders, building a loading bay will take days. You can put a CantiDecks in within hours. They’re simple to install.

And I would recommend these to any other subcontractor or major contractor if they want to build any project on time and efficiently.
