Meet our Experts: Thomas Carter, Senior Mechanical Design Engineer.
The creative process behind crafting best in class equipment.
(video transcript)

My name is Tom Carter and I’m a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Conquip.

As one of the lead engineers, I’m responsible for mechanical design, prototyping, analysis and testing and engineering drafting for Conquip equipment and products.

Previously, I’ve worked designing products in the oil and gas sector as well as on construction and agricultural machinery.

My previous roles have helped me to understand the construction customer base and their need for robust and reliable products that improve efficiency and safety on site.

Projects I’ve been involved in at Conquip include excavator forks and pouring bucket. And my focus in these projects has been to optimise the design to reduce weight while also keeping a robust and reliable design that’s expected of concrete products. To take a product from concept to production throughout a project, I’ll work closely with our supply chain team and be focusing on procurement of components and material selection. And I’ll also be working with the manufacturing team, where I’ll be ensuring that we can produce products in-house.

One of the more exciting and innovative products that the mechanical engineering team and I have been working on is the Smart-Release BulkX, which is a remote-controlled muck-away skip which improves safety and productivity on site.

One of the things I enjoy about working at Conquip is that I can be involved in a project at all stages, and these projects could be varied, from bespoke inquiries for large-scale sites or it could be developing products that keep sites going day in day out.
