Autolock Tipping Skip: The Story That Transformed Waste Handling

16th, January 2026

In the 2010s, safety concerns were raised about traditional tipping skips. A finger-trap hazard was a common potential risk and cause of major incidents, particularly if operatives placed their hands between the forks and the fork pockets of the skip for manual tipping.

In this time, roll-on/roll-off bins were also common however, operators had to manually tip the skip using long metal poles to empty them. While these skips we fast to use, they introduced further safety challenges with operatives near or under the danger zone.

This led to the question…

Is there a more efficient and safer way of handling and transporting waste on sites?

And so the development of the Autolock Tipping Skip began.

Where the Idea Began

Our aim was to remove operatives from all danger zones, especially removing finger-trap points and eliminate the need for hands-on contact during the tipping action.

For the last 15 years, the Autolock Tipping Skip has ensured that the skip automatically tips from the forklift whilst remaining attached and secure and the operator inside of the cab. Plus with a high tipping angle, it increases productivity of waste handling.

The Result: Fast and Efficient Solution for Handling Waste

The skips were produced in a single size, reflecting the fact that the industry largely required that size. Demand grew rapidly allowing us to expand our range and introduce different variations for more specific needs – and that’s why you’ll so often see a hard-working blue waste skip on almost every site today…

The Autolock Tipping Skip ultimately transformed a hazardous task into a much safer and more efficient one by:

  • Efficiency: Capable of being pushed, crane-lifted, or forklifted. The colour can also be customised in the Institute of Civil Engineers standard colours for waste segregation on-site.
  • Hands-free operation: No levers or cables are required to discharge the Autolock Tipping Skip, so the driver can remain safely within the machine’s cab.
  • Safety: A gas assisted ram ensures automatic locking of the tipping skip to the forks. Additional extras like mesh sides and a lid can be added to stop materials from moving in windy conditions and to be contained when waste leaves a chute.
