Persimmon Homes Development

Temporary works design & shoring kit supply for housing development in Somerset

ContractorCJL Construction Ltd for Persimmon Homes Severn Valley

LocationSomerset, UK

The Project

CJL Construction Ltd was selected to carry out the installation of deep drainage and utilities in the groundworks phase, prior to the construction of a Persimmon Homes development of 80-100 homes. For this project, CJL enlisted Conquip to supply a temporary works service and a range of shoring equipment.

Conquip provided its ‘Standard Shoring Solutions’ temporary works design and CJL hired a range of Trench Boxes, Lightweight Trench Boxes, Manhole Boxes, as well as ancillary trench access and safety equipment. In addition, an Excavator Pipe Laying Hook was on-site, for unloading and manoeuvring pipes and Road Plates were used on the uneven terrain.

The Challenge

Trench safety is vitally important on groundworks projects and can be problematic without the necessary equipment. To support trench excavation around the site with safety in mind at every point, the experienced CJL team installed Conquip’s shoring boxes, allowing them to lay foul water and storm water drainage pipes across the 1.5-hectare site in Yatton, near Weston-super-Mare.

Another challenge CJL faced was unloading the concrete pipe sections from delivery trucks and manoeuvring them into position.

The Solution

Keeping to the fast-paced, 12-week long project schedule was vital so before work started, a temporary works design was requested, to allow planning schedule to be created.

The solution designed by Conquip supported the trench excavation to a depth of 2.3 metres in heavy clay soil and shoring boxes were included to facilitate safe and efficient pipe laying. The robust design and build of Conquip shoring boxes allowed CJL to install them maintaining speed of installation and providing a suitable safety barrier for operatives to lay the pipe sections in the trenches.

The Trench Access Platform and the Davit Fall Arrest System guaranteed safe movement of the site team in and out of the trench using the access ladder and the Excavator Pipe Laying Hook meant that the site team could move the pipe sections quickly and easily, increasing on-site efficiencies.

Our range of equipment is adaptable to varying site requirements, accommodating a range of pipe sizes and applications, providing customers with end-to-end shoring solutions. Click here to find out more.

Project feedback

“We’ve been working with Conquip on four or five of our sites that need shoring boxes. This one in Yatton is for our client, Persimmon Homes. Having just moved over to Conquip as our shoring partner, we’re very impressed. The temporary works and design team are quick and efficient and the ordering process and customer service for the boxes we needed was seamless – you don’t have to give them very long to get the order here on time. On this project, they have delivered exactly what they said.”
