Smart Fuel Tank VS Fuel Eco- Hub

28th, August 2025

Secure fuel storage and efficient usage management are essential for running construction sites smoothly, as they help to reduce wastage, prevent theft and cut costs. Whether you’re fuelling a large fleet of plant machinery across a major project with multiple contractors, or managing a smaller site, having the right fuel solution makes all the difference.

Which fuel system suits your site best?

We offer two smart solutions to accommodate any-size site and provide you with optimum control of your fuel: the Smart Fuel Tank and the Fuel Eco-Hub.

But which one is right for you? Let’s compare them side by side:

Smart Fuel Tank

Smart Fuel Tank

Ideal for sites that want real-time fuel tracking, flexible placement and the option to retrofit existing bowsers into ‘smart’ units.

Pros:
✅Features a 12V electric pump that only allows authorised users and vehicles to fill up via an app.
✅Enables accurate monitoring of fuel levels, deliveries, and consumption to help prevent over and under-ordering, minimising wastage, and reducing downtime.
✅Tracks fuel usage in real time with online reporting by pump, user, vehicle, and site, for full transparency.
✅Helps with compliance and reporting for environmental and operational audits.
✅We can retrofit the smart pump system to existing bowsers — no need to replace your current fleet.
✅3,000-litre tank capacity – ideal for both small and large sites.
✅Fork pockets and crane lifting points make it easy to move around site or between site locations.
✅ Solar powered, stand-alone tank, ideal for remote sites with no mains power, but fitted with a supplied reverse reserve battery charging kit for low-sunlight conditions.

Cons:
❌Requires connectivity for live data tracking — but the app will save the pump transaction until a data signal is restored and then automatically upload it to the online portal.
❌Stores only fuel (no AdBlue or accessory storage, unlike the Fuel Eco Hub).
❌Less secure than the Fuel Eco-Hub as the tank is not stored in a container.

Fuel Eco-Hub

Fuel Eco-Hub

Ideal for larger sites needing centralised, bulk fuel storage and secure, on-site refuelling.

Pros:
✅Features a 24V electric pump with a digital display that only allows authorised users and vehicles to fill up via an app.
✅Provides accurate monitoring of fuel levels, deliveries, and consumption to avoid over or under-ordering to reduce wastage and minimise downtime on-site.
✅Tracks fuel usage in real time with online reporting by pump, user, vehicle, and site.
✅Optional tank level monitor for fuel reminders or automatic replenishment through the online portal.
✅Helps with compliance and reporting for environmental and operational audits.
✅Secure container with additional locking systems, discreetly disguised as a ‘storage container’ to help deter opportunistic thieves.
✅Fully bunded storage to protect against spills and ground contamination, with a spill kit and fire extinguisher included.
✅ Includes shelving and storage space for fuel accessories and AdBlue containers, such as a 1000-litre IBC.
✅ 2,000-litre and 3,000-litre fuel tank capacities available to suit varying site sizes and requirements.
✅ Robust, weatherproof build for high-demand, high-traffic construction environments.
✅ Solar powered, ideal for remote sites and those in the early stages of setup and comes complete with a 240V socket and cable for mains or generator connection, if required.
✅ Centralised refuelling point reduces downtime from plant vehicles to offsite fuel stations.

Cons:
❌ Requires more space on site (10ft container footprint).
❌ Not designed for frequent relocation — best suited for long-term setups.
❌ Requires connectivity for live data tracking — but the app will save the pump transaction until signal is restored and then automatically upload it to the online software.

Which should you choose?

Option 1 – Smart Fuel Tank

Best for sites where mobility is key or where you want to turn your existing 3000-litre bowsers into ‘smart’ tanks. Great for tracking usage across vehicles and plant for managing fuel consumption in real time.

Option 2 – Fuel Eco-Hub

Best for larger sites with a designated area for substance storage that require a discrete solution for fuel and AdBlue storage. The Fuel Eco-Hub reduces downtime, increases operational efficiency and provides a secure, central fuelling location with a supporting online portal for tracking the fuel usage of multiple contractors and individuals.

The use of the fuel hub is a must. I think all the principal contractors that we have, and all our subcontractors should have these in place. Conquip has given a really good professional service to us on the transition to using their Fuel Eco-Hubs across our business.

One of the biggest impacts we’ve had on our business over the last few years is the swap from red diesel to white diesel, as we immediately saw theft increase. That’s one of the main reasons we’re using the Conquip Fuel Eco-Hub, it’s well-disguised as a normal site store and comes with extra security measures, making it impossible to steal the diesel.
