Concrete Washout System VS Compact Concrete Washout Unit

16th, July 2025

Concrete waste management is a critical part of maintaining a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible construction site. Whether you are pouring vast amounts of concrete on large infrastructure projects or foundations on a small residential site, having a reliable, concrete washout solution is key.

Which concrete washout solution suits your site best?

At Conquip, we offer two options for different requirements —the Compact Concrete Washout Unit and the Concrete Washout System.

But which one is right for you? Let’s compare them side by side:

Concrete Washout System

Concrete Washout System

Ideal for larger sites with cranes that are pouring using Concrete Skips.

Pros:
✅Facilitates the safe washout of concrete skips.
✅Reuses water from cleaning skips for further washout or for wet curing.
✅Skips sit securely in platform, operative is harnessed to the wash platform.
✅Wastewater in the storage tank can be treated with pH neutraliser additive and tested to ensure it is safe.
✅Treated wastewater can be disposed of onsite, in line with environmental regulations.
✅Reduces total water volume required for concrete production and cleaning.
✅Complies to UK environmental regulation RPS287.

Cons:
❌Needs more space onsite.
❌Skips must be washed straight after use for best cleaning results.
❌Sites responsible for treating wastewater with pH neutraliser additive.

Concrete washout system

Compact Concrete Washout Unit

Ideal for sites without cranes that are not using concrete skips to pour concrete.

Pros:
✅Wash from three sides of the unit, ideal for space-restricted sites.
✅Compact, space-saving system, due to its small footprint.
✅Wastewater is recycled, treated, pH neutralised and retained for use again.
✅Treated wastewater can be disposed of onsite in line of environmental regulations.
✅Eliminates logistical headache and cost with waste taken offsite.
✅Reduces total water volume required for concrete production and cleaning.
✅Complies to UK environmental regulation RPS287.

Cons:
❌Unable to clean skips and larger equipment.
❌Sites responsible for treating wastewater with pH neutraliser additive.
❌Operatives need to regularly test water in the tank to ensure pH level is safe to dispose of.

How They Work: Washing Cycle Explained

Concrete Washout System

  • Skip is securely placed on the platform.
  • Operatives attach to the harness point.
  • The hose attached to the pump in the 2000-litre water tank washes the skip.
  • The system collects heavy aggregate in the filtration bag, filters the concrete wastewater through a weir system, and pumps it back into the water tank.
  • Operators collect the contaminated water in the tank, treat it with a pH neutraliser additive, and store it for future use.
  • Alternatively, you can reuse the contaminated water for further washout or for wet curing.

Compact Concrete Washout Unit

  • After use, operators wash out concrete truck chutes and equipment in the Compact Concrete Washout Unit.
  • The filtration bag captures heavy aggregate, while the system filters the wastewater from the wash area and pumps it into the main tank.
  • Operators can then reuse it for further washout.
  • Once operators complete the washout, they can treat the water in the tank with a pH neutraliser additive and either store it for future use or safely dispose of it according to local environmental guidelines.

Which Should You Choose?

Concrete Washout

Option 1 – The Concrete Washout System

This system is ideal for larger sites that have the use of a crane and are using concrete skips to pour concrete. Workers predominantly use the Concrete Washout System to wash out concrete skips, but they can also use it to clean concrete pumps and truck chutes.

The Concrete Washout System allows you to reuse concrete wastewater for further washout. Once the process is complete, workers can treat the water with pH neutraliser and either store it for future use or safely dispose of it according to the site’s local environmental guidelines.

Compact Concrete Washout Unit

Option 2 – The Compact Concrete Washout Unit

This unit is perfect for sites that don’t have the use of cranes and aren’t using concrete skips to pour concrete. Operators predominantly use the Compact Concrete Washout Unit for concrete truck chutes, but they also use it for smaller equipment and attachments, like our Excavator Pouring Bucket. It’s great for sites that have less footprint available.

The Compact Concrete Washout Unit allows you to reuse concrete wastewater for further washout. After washout, workers can treat the wastewater with pH neutraliser and either store it for future use or safely dispose of it according to the site’s local environmental guidelines.
