MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Designing, manufacturing and trialling for safer use on-site

Conquip's Application Engineers love finding solutions to the biggest challenges the industry faces today, not least the safety of personnel on-site. Our mission is to create a safer environment for site operatives during concrete pours while maintaining the same levels of productivity from current pouring methods.

Our three main aims are to...

MAXIMISE SAFETY
MAINTAIN PRODUCTIVITY
REDUCE RISK

INDUSTRY CHALLENGES

As one of the last remaining lifting operations in construction where personnel are positioned underneath a suspended load to operate the equipment, concrete pouring from a skip, predominately column or tremie skips, endangers the safety of operatives during every pour.

However, traditional methods of pouring concrete from a column skip are so deeply instilled in common, everyday practices, that changing the mindset or approach, even if it is with the safety of personnel top of mind, is an uphill struggle.

Collaboration the key to change

Recognising this, Conquip collaborated closely with Balfour Beatty, Select Plant Hire, part of the Laing O'Rourke Group, to innovate safer solutions for concrete pouring. As a result, a range of optional extras for the Concrete Skip were developed to combat the dangers involved with the current, traditional methods for concrete pouring.

OUR NEW INNOVATIONS

We have a range of skip set-up options available that can be used individually or in conjunction with each other, accommodating any site-specific application.

EXTENDED FLOW GATE HANDLE

Control the pour from a safer distance, keeping operatives safely away from the suspended load.

HOSE GUIDE & INSERT

Precisely position the hose during a pour without putting your team at risk, enhancing both safety and productivity.

BAUER CONNECTION

Seamlessly switch between different hose lengths with ease, saving time and eliminating manual refitting.

Did you know?

These attachments can all be used simultaneously and in conjunction with each other, or a selection of them can be used, depending on the application and site-specific requirements.

On sites where only one length of hose is needed, the Bauer Connection will not be required.

For sites that have limited space in the pour location or restricted access to the hose, tag lines may be preferred to position the hose, rather than the Hose Guide.

HOW THEY IMPROVE SAFETY

To understand the difference this range of attachments will make to the safety of site operatives, it is better to just show it!

The images below illustrate the positioning of personnel using a standard Concrete Skip without any attachments and a modified Concrete Skip. Current, traditional concrete pouring methods position multiple operatives directly underneath the suspended load, one to operate the flow gate and at least one more to position the hose.

By modifying a skip to include the Extended Flow Gate Handle and by using the Hose Guide to position the hose, all operatives are stood safely outside the 'danger zone.'

      CONCRETE WASHOUT & BLOWOUT

Sustainability is significantly important for sites making, mixing and using concrete. Equally, so is safely cleaning equipment after use and disposing of concrete waste in line with government guidance and regulations.

Customise your Concrete Skip with a blowout attachment and cover to safely blowout pump lines, or opt for the full Concrete Washout System to reuse concrete wastewater.

Whatever the requirement, Conquip has a solution that will reduce the carbon footprint of your site.

      NO BALE ARM, NO PROBLEM

Conquip released a column skip without a bale arm years before many Tier 1 contractors banned skips with bale arms following multiple accidents and fatalities on construction sites.

Our Concrete Column Skip Without Bale Arm is available in capacities from 500 litres to 4000 litres, and features two inverted lifting points to ensure a balanced lift every time.

In 2023 and 2024 we have pro-actively worked with a large Tier 1 and plant contractors to design, manufacture and test, a set of accessories to improve the standard of column/tremie skips in order to:

01/ Remove the last lifting operation in the industry where a person needs to stand below a suspended load to operate the equipment.

02/ Aid the more accurate directional pour of concrete at ‘arms’ length from the skip.

      TESTIMONIAL

      A GAME CHANGER...

"To find a solution to the last operation where personnel are stood below a suspended load is a game changer for the industry and a huge step in the right direction to making concrete pouring safer on sites. It has been a pleasure to be part of that journey with Conquip."
