Top FAQs about CantiDeck

Even after more than 15 years of CantiDeck being used across the world, we still get many questions about the concept and how it works. If you’re making decisions about how to manage your vertical logistics and building load-out – this is info you need to know! So, we put together a list of the most common questions to give you the lowdown on loading with CantiDeck.

01 / Why should I use CantiDeck?

Our CantiDeck loading platforms provide a safe and cost-effective solution for loading a wide variety of materials and equipment. In just 20 minutes you can install a minimum 6m2 platform that has a capacity of 5000kg to whatever floor of your building you choose! It’s cheaper, faster and less hassle than complex scaffolding systems and can be relocated and installed quickly and efficiently.

02 / Am I limited by where I can use it?

The CantiDeck can be used in a variety of situations and our engineering team have assisted with many bespoke configurations. As standard, CantiDeck can be used for concrete and steel frame high-rise buildings for loading out pods, materials and equipment as well as underground applications in tunnels and shafts.  Other common applications include personnel access, soft-strip demolition and specific lifts into buildings that have already been constructed, such as installing medical equipment into hospitals.

03 / When should I use the Fixed Flush?

The Fixed Flush CantiDeck is ideal for situations where reduced head room places working height at a premium. It provides a completely smooth transition from the building floor to the deck.

04 / When should I use the Super Roller?

Being the only loading platform in the UK that can be fully retracted within the building structure, the Super Roller is most effective where space is restricted, and other lifting equipment is in operation near the platform. It also allows a reduction of dynamic loadings in high winds.

05 / How many decks should I have?

As many as you need! Using the Super Roller means multiple platforms can be installed in a stacked configuration, making it ideal for transferring goods and materials between floors. This means increased working time and crane efficiency.

06 / How much can it hold?

Our most common capacity is a Working Load Limit of 5000kg. We can achieve up to 8000kg and potentially more, but it’s mostly dependent on the loading that the building structure can take. Our technical team are ready to assist if you have questions on loadings.

07 / How does it stay in the building?

Each platform has a unique single prop design. The platform sits flush against the edge of the building and is secured into place with screw jacks. The deck is suspended from the base of the main load-bearing beam and the cantilever mechanism reduces the weight of the deck and the reaction loadings to the structure.

08 / What can I expect on delivery day?

In the UK, our CantiDeck platforms arrive via our own FORS Gold accredited transportation, ready for on-truck assembly before it is crane lifted into position. On-site safety is paramount, so whether you’ve hired or purchased CantiDecks, Conquip can offer a full installation service, or we can provide training for your site operatives to safely install and remove the CantiDeck.

09 / How long does it take to install?

It only takes 30 minutes for a CantiDeck to be installed, for which we can provide a full installation service.

10 / Can it be relocated?

Relocation of a platform is quick and simple if you know how. Which is why we provide on-site training so that site operatives can relocate platforms whenever they are required to do so, safely and efficiently. To install and relocate a platform, the individual must at least have a slinger / signaller ticket.

11 / I need a specific configuration; can you provide that?

Of course! We offer multiple configuration options, from high sides to wall brackets. View all configurations here. All platforms are available in a variety of standard widths and lengths and we can provide bespoke sized platforms to suit any site requirement.

12 / I need a modular bathroom pod loaded in, can CantiDeck help?

Absolutely! The increase in off-site construction has some excellent benefits, but also some challenges for contractors. The CantiDeck platform provides a landing area to install a pod on any floor of a building – there are plenty of configurations to make sure CantiDeck works with your building structure.

13 / Do I need the training?

Yes. As a manufacturer, we stipulate that either our customers need to have had training or the installation and movement is carried out by one of our trained installation engineers. However, the responsibility is on the contractor to ensure that the lift is planned and carried out safely on their site and by a competent person. When working at height, everyone in the lift should be properly briefed to ensure the safety of all workers and members of the public. On-the-job familiarisation training is available to Appointed Persons for Lifting (APs), Lifting Managers and Slinger / Signallers. Toolbox talks and awareness training can be provided to other personnel on site such as Logistic Managers and Project Managers.

14 / What do I need to provide?

When working at height, suitable harnesses and other relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be provided for all site operatives that will require access to the loading platform for loading out. Edge protection on the leading edge of the building must be fitted right up to the side of the platform to ensure safety.

15 / Is there additional equipment available?

The CantiCrane can be used in conjunction with the CantiDeck loading platform to reduce total dependence on tower cranes during a project. It’s most efficient when used with the Super Roller to move materials between floors efficiently and has a large lifting capacity of 2000kg.

Vertical props with a high load bearing capacity, made from steel or aluminium, are available to spread the load of the platform.

A purpose-built support trolley to transport long, awkward and over-sized loads from the platform into a structure. This allows loads longer than the deck to be safely slung and lifted away without opening the deck doors.
