UCLE Marshgate
Close collaboration on temporary propping scheme with Morrisroe, allowed rapid delivery on Olympic Park project.
Contractor
Mace, Morrisroe
Location
UCLE Marshgate at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
Challenge
Working on UCLE Marshgate project, Morrisroe had a tight programme to deliver the temporary propping scheme before the basement excavation began, as that was being carried out by another contractor. The basement construction is 1 storey deep, supporting the new 10 storey student accommodation development consisting of 4 concrete cores. Also, due to the large spans of the excavation, all contractors on site needed to be sure that the propping scheme was sufficient to meet or exceed the requirements in line with the ground engineering calculations for the project.
Solution
In collaboration with the on-site Engineers from Morrisroe, our team came up with the largest prop configuration we have supplied so far. The props at the UCLE Marshgate project were 1000mm in diameter, helping to support the 6-meter-deep basement excavationTo keep the project on-track, quick delivery with efficient scheduling and transport booking was necessary. This was possible thanks to Conquip’s own free standing FORS Gold transport service delivering all propping to site on time. 2 engineers from our team joined Morrisroe at site for a couple of days to oversee and assist with the set-up of the propping making sure the equipment was used safely and correctly. Only once the on-site team felt comfortable with the set-up our engineers have left them to carry on with the basement excavation.
Feedback
"Props have gone in on time, actually ahead of time. They [Conquip] had never had any issues with their deliveries, they were always booked in on time. It was very good experience to work with Conquip and I think we would definitely work with them again."
