Challenge

A new build development of a single building with 25 prestigious residential apartments, underground parking and a restaurant in Mayfair included a three storey basement dig. The site is in the centre of busy Westminster with buildings on two sides and roads with pedestrian pavements on the other two sides, resulting in careful considerations required for safety and scheduling. The project needed to be completed fast to minimise impact on the local community and efficient logistics to prevent risk to any of the public in the surrounds of this very tight site.

Solution

We worked closely with Careys to provide a solution that would keep the basement excavation on schedule and prevent any risk of injury for workers or the general public. 3000 litre BulkX muck away skips and gantrys were specified and supplied for the project to enable large volumes of load to be directly released into the back of waiting waste removal lorries, speeding up cycle times, reducing crane lifts, and reducing the amount of excavators required on site.

The system was more effective than anticipated, and muck away was completed earlier than calculated. This enabled Careys to get ahead of shedule and off-hire the skips earlier.

Feedback

"The BulkX system worked better than we had anticipated and we have completed our muck away earlier than expected. Consultation with Conquip on the logistics allowed us to maximise the volume to be skipped with fewer lifts, speeding up the whole process."
