Engineering Smarter Solutions: Director of Mechanical Engineering Q&A

9th, May 2025

Introduction

At Conquip, we have two decades of experience in developing a wide range of best-in-class, innovative methods and equipment to improve productivity, safety, and efficiency for contractors.

When it comes to both in-house engineering and manufacturing excellence, we strive to push the boundaries of what is possible, ensuring that our customers benefit from cutting-edge solutions tailored to their specific needs.

Q: Can you introduce yourself and your role at Conquip Engineering Group?

My name is Milad Farhangnia and I lead a team of engineers – working with our Supply Chain, Sales and Marketing colleagues – to deliver new both mainstream and bespoke equipment. We create application-specific products for customers and their projects across the UK, USA, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Q: How does Conquip ensure its equipment maximises productivity on-site?

At Conquip, our approach to designing, developing and manufacturing equipment focuses on maximising productivity, while ensuring seamless integration into existing customer operations.

By working closely with Tier 1 and a wider group of contractors, we determine all of this to support with their workflows and project plan, reducing time and risk of additional costs.

We’re able to assess and develop equipment innovations that will then appeal and become available to the wider market – our Smart-Release BulkX, Crane Forks Cage and Concrete Skip safety attachment innovations are just a few examples.

Q: Focusing on one solution, what is the Smart-Release BulkX system?

The system is a new variant of our long-standing BulkX muck away skip range, all designed to streamline excavation and logistics processes. It features a remote-controlled, fully-electric release mechanism, allowing for the safe and efficient discharge of materials and spoil without requiring manual intervention. From 4,000L to 16,000L capacities, it provides operational flexibility for various different site requirements and configurations. Engineered for durability and ease of maintenance, the Smart-Release BulkX enhances productivity while reducing downtime, making it essential on many excavation projects.

Q: How does the Smart-Release BulkX system improve operator safety?

It provides real safety benefits on any site in several ways:

  • The remote-controlled function eliminates the need for manual intervention, reducing the risk of accidents with a fail-safe off switch.
  • The system is designed to be operated and maintained by a competent operative, removing the reliance on specialists.
  • Being able to discharge anywhere on-site, operatives can stay far away from the discharge zone, and along with warning beacons, contractors can reduce people-plant interface challenges.
  • We provide an extensive technical user guide and on-site training, to ensure proper use and safe operation of any BulkX.

Q: How does the Smart-Release BulkX contribute to reducing downtime and maintenance costs?

The Smart-Release BulkX system is engineered to maximise productivity first and foremost. The system is built for durability and can be used for continual excavation cycles with an additional battery. We designed the system based on a modular design concept, which means that high-wear components, such as actuators, are easy to access. Plus, batteries and parts can be quickly replaced on-site.
