The Great South Run

Two Conquip team members Jon Bailey and Brandon Cuell took to the streets of Portsmouth to compete in the Great South Run last weekend.

Over 16,000 people competed in the race, which at 10 miles (16km), is a little over a half marathon. The route travels past the Historic Dockyard and HMS Victory, ending on the seafront.

The official starters of the Great South Run were four local members of NHS staff, a homage to the efforts of all NHS staff during the pandemic.

So, how did they do?

Jon, who is running 5km everyday this year for Cancer Research, finished with an impressive time of 1:14:31, a PB (personal best), beating his previous best time by 9 minutes. He also racked up PBs for 15km (1:09:36) and 10km (0:46:12) on this run - well done Jon, cracking job!

Brandon finished the race in an incredible 1:01:32 which was a PB for him and he also smashed his 10km PB with a time of 0:37:52 – congrats Brandon, a fantastic achievement! To put this into perspective the winners, Eilish McColgan – the British 5,000m record holder, and Jack Rowe competing in the men’s elite race, completed the Great South Run in 0:50:43 and 0:47:20, respectively.
