Why is CantiDeck a good idea?

Traditional vs modern. What is your ‘go-to’ method for vertical logistics? In this article we explore what is better and why… Read on for a ‘lowdown’ on the pros and cons of scaffolding, cantilever loading platforms or construction hoists.

How loadout was always done...(Traditional Methods)

When it comes to choosing the right system for vertical logistics, there are several options in the industry. As with any solution, each have pros and cons and there are newer methods which overcome some of these limitations.

Scaffolding Loading Bays

Scaffolding can be costly experience, especially for certain applications. Some scaffolding designs are an ‘engineering work of art’ to achieve the necessary strength or spans, but sometimes it is not worth the temporary works design time or extra cost to achieve a scaffolding loading bay with a high loading capacity, ie strength to take pallets of bricks, blocks and other materials.

The strength concept can be a hard one to understand, but run this scenario…

You have a structure of 8 floors in height. On one side of the building, you need to load out floors 1-8 with formwork as the concrete frame goes up, followed by façade panels to close out the building envelope, starting at floor 8 and working back down the building.

The maximum load that needs to be landed on the loading bay is 5000kg.  The scaffold loading bay can only take 4500kg at floor 8, meaning that the load has to be broken down on site into smaller lots to be crane lifted onto the platform.

On this project, they could have sped up the project by starting to load out floor 6 with materials ahead of floor 8 being topped out, but because of the scaffold being built up to floor 8, they couldn’t access floor 6 simultaneously. Imagine the extra time that could have been saved had they been able to load out the 5000kg load immediately without breaking it down and they could have accessed multiple floors simultaneously or flexibly to suit their timescales.

External Lifts / Hoists

External lifts and hoists can be used to vertically transport materials and / or personnel. However, these cumbersome systems take up a lot of space; they can get in the way of other lifting equipment and are expensive to hire or buy.

When relying on a diesel engine or electric motor, the risk of break down comes into play, potentially causing downtime. Often a choice for personnel access, but perhaps not the ideal option for goods movement.

Innovate, try CantiDeck (Modern Method)

So, what could CantiDeck do for you? We wanted to make life on-site simpler, safer and cut significant costs on your project.

As a start, less engineering design time is involved. Our team of specialists collaborate with pre-construction teams, logistics planners and project engineers, to identify which of our platforms and products will work with your structure and help to speed up your logistics programme.

Move over scaffolding loading bays...

A CantiDeck loading platform has a large working load limit capacity at any floor, up to 8000kg in certain configurations. Its unique single prop design reduces the weight of the deck and the reaction loadings to the structure, meaning goods and equipment (as well as personnel) are far safer when loading.

It also can be moved around the building quickly, so with the scaffolding case study that we highlighted earlier, floors 6 and 8 could have been loaded out on the same day, as the CantiDeck could have been relocated in less than 30 minutes.

Hoists might have a place but for fast material loadout…?

CantiDeck is quickly becoming known as the fastest loading platform for installation and relocation. With on-site training provided, site operatives can transition the platforms safely, whenever required to do so. Saving time and making the moving of equipment and materials far more efficient.

When combined with related products such as the CantiCrane, overall project time can be significantly reduced and ultimately eliminate the need for these traditional costly systems.

How do I know it’s a genuine CantiDeck?

You want to know if it’s the real deal, right?  Help us spot the fakes, by knowing these key facts that you will only find with a genuine CantiDeck platform. First the Fixed Flush is the only platform that provides a true level or ‘flush’ transition from the floor of the structure to the loading area.

Secondly, the Super Roller is the only crane loading platform in the UK that can be fully retracted within the frame and building edge, multiple platforms can be installed in a stacked configuration for moving goods in and out of structures.

Other Configurations

There are many bespoke configurations available when your building structure doesn’t permit using the standard propped design.

For example, when using CantiDeck in tunnel shafts, we have designed a bolt-down configuration and when wanting extra protecting for slinging loads, we introduced high mesh sides to ensure that personnel were protected if needing to work at height on the deck, to unhook lifting chains from the load.
