The ultimate solution for concrete washout

Many products attempt to address the issue of concrete washout but none offer a complete solution. Concrete waste water contains high alkaline levels due to calcium hydroxide and with a pH value typically between 11.6 and 13.6, it is a high risk to the environment. Our Concrete Washout System reuses 100% of waste water, read on to find out how.

Addressing the challenge of site waste management

It is certainly no secret that concrete washout has not only been a huge challenge for sites but for the whole construction industry. A one-stop solution for cleaning concrete equipment has been missing from construction…until now!

If washout is not managed correctly, it can be detrimental to the environment and costly to resolve. The Concrete Washout System effectively cleans concrete hardware, such as, skips, placing booms and other pipelines on-site, while simultaneously reusing all of the waste water in the process.

How was it developed?

We worked with Pat Heston, Site Manager for the Toureen Group on the Heathrow T4 project, who came to us with the idea of using a filtration tray to help manage some of the concrete waste water. After seeing the benefits of this, the challenge was then to develop a method that could reuse all of the waste water, eliminating the environment impact caused from concrete washout.

We developed the filtration tray to include a skip washing platform and a water storage tank. These additional components ensured the system could reuse 100% of waste water generated from cleaning the concrete equipment.

"We’ve always had an excellent relationship with Conquip and we are really pleased with how the system has developed. They have really adopted the idea and run with it and the result is a highly valuable addition to our kit on site. On a project like this where we are dealing with large volumes of concrete and where space on site is limited it is vital to have a compact and efficient system for processing the skips, pumps and trucks once a pour is complete."

How is the waste water reused?

Concrete equipment is washed out into the filtration tray, the water passes through filtration bags leaving the heavy aggregate. This aggregate can then be removed and disposed of. Small sediment particles that remain in the water sink to the bottom of the tray and the water flows into the second section. As the water flows into the final section, the remaining particles are removed and it is ready to be pumped into the storage tank.

The filtered water can be used for wet-curing and the remaining water in the storage tank can be collected by the concrete supplier for the next batch, which is a huge advantage as concrete production requires vast amounts of water.
