Why choose Auto/Self Tipping Skip over a Standard Tipping Skip?

When it comes to site waste management, using the most efficient method of waste disposal can allow major time-saving benefits. This can be achieved by opting for the Autolock Tipping Skip over the traditional Forklift Tipping Skip. Read on to find out how…

Forklift Tipping Skips

One of the most common pieces of waste management equipment found in nearly every housebuilding project is a tipping skip, a compact forklift skip for easy manipulation and transportation of materials and waste on site.

While you will be able to find a variety of design and manufacture options in the market, often you might come across two of the most common variations of the tipping skip – the auto or self-tipping skip and standard forklift skip.

How Does a Tipping Skip Work?

The standard tipping skip works on the principle of a release lever. The skip is mounted on the forks of the forklift and manually attached by a safety chain. The release lever controlled by the driver allows for easy tipping and the return position of the skip.

The self-tipping skip is not dissimilar to the standard option; however, it features an innovative tipping mechanism, which makes it a winner in terms of speed, safety and efficiency.

Advantages of Autolock over the standard Forklift Tipping Skip

Although the difference between the two might not be immediately obvious to the eye of non-specialist, the advantages Autolock holds over the standard option are numerous.

The auto tipping mechanism means that no manual control of the skip is required. Once it is mounted on the telehandler forklift, it automatically locks with the forks and can be tipped simply by adjusting the angle of the forks from the safety of the cabin. No release level or safety chains required.

Don’t Just Take Our Word for It!

In the video below, we challenged the Autolock to a speed test to prove the real difference it can make in terms of onsite time efficiency in comparison to the standard forklift.

Main Advantages

1. Speed on site - the driver doesn’t need to get out of the forklift cabin which increases the speed of the operations and efficiency of your site operatives.

2. Cost - Autolock is economical but also cost-effective options allowing for budget savings.

3. Safety – as no manual handling of the tipping skip is required, the self-tipping skips presents a big improvement in the safety of on-site personnel.

4. Economical – the automatic tipping mechanism is less weary to the equipment both the skip and the telehandler which makes it a more economical option as well.

5. Easy to use and maintain.

What to look out for when buying or hiring?

Be sure to consider how the tipping skip is going to be used and whether the product design represents any potential risks for safety issues or chances of causing equipment damage during use. The raked-back design of the Conquip Autolock, for example, prevents damage to the skip increasing its durability.

The manufacture of the product needs to be robust so the skip can withstand rigorous site conditions. At Conquip, all our skips are manufactured here in the UK, using only high-quality UK or European steel. Our weld quality is second to none, with a welding coding standard of BS EN 287-1 and inspections carried out in compliance with BS EN 587-1 – Level B.

Configuration options

Consider the use of the skip. The Conquip Autolock can be adjusted to a wheeled tipping skip by additions of the castor wheels allowing transportation of materials on the solid ground. 4 lifting points can also be added enabling the skip to be transported by crane.

The Autolock is very easy to transport around site thanks to additional fork pockets so the skip can be mounted on the telehandler forks from both sides.

Do you manipulate a variety of materials and you don’t want your skips to get mixed up? Conquip offers a range of colour paint options often used to colour code your tipping skips by the material they transfer, for example, hazardous or mixed materials.

Autolock dimensions

The compact width (maximum of 989mm with castor wheels) of the smallest of our tipping skips – the Autolock 500 – is perfect for housebuilding as it fits within the standard door frame with the capacity of 500 litres and 1000kg working load limit.

Slightly wider (1224 mm) Autolock 1200 offers capacity of 1200 litres and 2000kg working load limit.
