Do you ever see lifts on site that don’t look safe?

An unsafe lift: a badly strapped load, a loose restraint net, using a single-lift strap for multiple lifts. Sound familiar?

Following too many accidents and near misses, Conquip decided to put a spotlight on safety and take action on the unsafe nature of current methods for lifting pallets of bricks and blocks.

Earlier this year our Innovate Team began working with Select Plant Hire and Laing O’Rourke to develop a safe system and methodology for lifting bricks, blocks and other palletised materials.

Our ethos of safety and continuous improvement is directly aligned with Select Plant Hire and the Laing O’Rourke group. The partnership has allowed us to hear the views of in varied roles and from multiple projects. We’ve listened to Health & Safety Coordinators, AP’s for Lifting, Lifting Managers, Project Managers, Lifting Specialists and Plant Managers, to name a few.

To ensure that there is no bias, Select Plant Hire have worked with us to enlist other major contractors to give their views and opinions, which have all been instrumental in arriving at the final product.

As a result, we have a safe, secure solution for lifting bricks, blocks and palletised material that will ensure the load is contained, even if the pallet or materials were to shift on the Crane Forks.

A big thank you to all of the site teams a the Northern Line Extension Project, Ferrovial Agroman Laing O’Rourke joint venture (FLO).
